The El Presidente Cocktail has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s, and its origin are closely tied to the American Prohibition era. During this time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol were banned in the United States. This led to an increase in illegal alcohol production and consumption, and many Americans turned to Cuba, which was a popular destination for tourists at the time, to escape the restriction of prohibition.

It was during this time that El Presidente cocktail is said to have been created in Cuba. The drink quickly became popular among the high society and politicians, hence the name ‘El Presidente’. As a result of its popularity, the cocktail has become a classic that is still enjoyed today. The drink’s recipe has been passed down through generations, and has undergone some modifications, but the core ingredients remain the same.

 

Our version uses premium aged rum, our own secret blend of vermouths and fortified wines, and the orange liqueur (aka Triple Sec) produced by the Merlet family in France and comprised of three different types of citruses (orange, lemon and lime).

 

One of the great things about our El Presidente is the versatility in terms of serving. Being bottled at 23% abv, if you prefer a strong and boozy serve, just pour it in a cocktail glass straight from the fridge; alternatively, you can serve it in a tumbler glass over ice cubes, which allows the drink to benefit from a bit of dilution, opening up the flavours as you sip.

 

Another benefit of our blending and ageing techniques is that the drink has an extra-long shelf life and actually improves with age if stored correctly. This means you can enjoy it for a longer period of time, and the flavours will only get better with time. Make sure you store it in a cool, dark place, away from any direct light source.
